The water hose to heater core at the firewall broke. It has a plastic fitting that is attached to the firewall tube. How do you take this piece off?

I had to use an AC/fuel line disconnect tool that I picked up as a set of six at auto zone or advance auto. Can't recall the exact price, but it wasn't too expensive...$10 or so. Here's a pic of the set... this guide will show you how. https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-heater-hoses

I have a shut off valve in the small hose and I want to put a ball valve shut off in because the old one drips a little water. Is the small heater hose the inlet and is that the one I should put the shut off valve in? And what size is the small heater hose usually? I’m thinking 5/8 inch. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, The heater hose size is 5/8 . The inlet to the heater core is the hose coming off the water pump. The return line from the heater core exits to the intake manifold.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
