How do you replace the ignition? Is it necessary to disengage the airbag?

If you are refering to the tumbler, yes the steering wheel needs removed. Make sure to disconnect the battery. I like to let the vehicle sit overnight with no battery to make sure there is no power left that could deploy the air bag.
