1999 Chevy Silverado gear lights whent out

I just purchast the 2500 4x4 silv. Chevi truck the gear lights are digital they quit working everything else in the dash is working could this still be a fuse

I dont see any fuse that pertains to the readout. Unfortunatly a scan tool is req'd to do an "instrument cluster system check" to see what is wrong, they dont give much diagnostic info beyond that. Could be the cluster or the PRNDl switch (on trans). Without a scan it is all guess work
