I was helping my brother change the filter on his old Monte Carlo, it had the metal seal with the rubber coating. We were succesful in ripping the rubber coating off it but the metal portion would not budge. I ended up using a brass punch to move it a tad (broke the bond) and was able to finally get it out. What ever you decide to use, make sure you don't gouge the wall of the cavity.
