The engine temperature will not maintain at 195 degrees F. It will reach that temp, very briefly, but then falls to about 155 F and maintains at that temperature. I have replaced the thermostat three times. The last two were 195 degree Stants. I have boiled the thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly. I have replaced the fan clutch, radiator cap, and put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. Still no change. None of the mechanics I've talked to around here have any answers. Can you give me any advice? The MPG is suffering.

Hi there,

you taken thermal reading of the exact coolant temp, what mix of anti freeze are you using? This is some what strange as you say even with the radiator part covered the temp wont rise. I will consider this and re post if I have any further ideas.

I have checked the the temp at the thermostat hose, it reads 155 to 160 degrees. (With an infrared thermometer) I am currently using Shellzone dexcool antifreeze, about 60/40 mix. The radiator reads about 150 at the inlet and maybe 80 at the bottom hose. The bottom hose is cool to the touch after long drives. The heater air temp is just warm at best, I had the heater pressure blasted at the local radiator shop which worked for the rest of the day. I am contemplating covering the entire radiator to see if that will make a difference.

I would not cover the entire radiator, may be use something like shade cloth that way you will still get some air through. Let me know how you get on with this.

Mark.
