My truck was having problems starting, not turning over, but firing up. I took it to a mechanic to have a tune up. That did not fix the problem. He suggested that the fuel pump was losing pressure and needed to be replaced. This did not help fix the starting problem either. It starts better but not like it used to. It now starts right away most of the time, but not always. But now I have a new problem. Since the fuel pump was replaced, my gas mileage has gone from 15MPG to 11MPG. The drop in gas mileage happened right when the fuel pump was replaced. Any suggestions?

The drop in fuel pressure could be related to a bad fuel pressure regulator. Its real common on this engine. Its easy to check, just remove the vacuum line to the regulator(its mounted on the fuel rail) and check for signs of gas, any sign of gas and you have found your problem. Hope this helps
