how do i get the clip off that holds the brake pedal to the push rod on the brake booster

That is a good question, it has a safety clip so it can not fall out and you lose your brake pedal, this is how to remove it: take your finger and put it on the outside of the clip then pull out a little bit and straight up that will release the lock mechanism and the clip will come out, if you ruin the clip you will have a fun time locating another one probably only at the junkyard
