1994 Chevy Silverado Temperature Gauge

The temperature gauge recently stopped working. How do I go about repairing this problem?

first off turn key on and have someone unplug the coolant temp sending unit. then ground it out. does needle move? if it moves then chekc the sensor and connector. if it doesnt move check the wiring.
