Engine sputters ands runs funny until it stalls. Suddenly it will snap out of it and run fine but the service engine light comes on. It happend suddenly going down the highway. Any advice on wut to check

If the light came on, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. Take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan it. Most will do it for free.
