1988 Chevy Silverado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 79, ooo miles

I have replaced 2 fuel pumps on my Mother-In-Laws 1988 chevy truck. Both times the rubber(?) Hose the connects the pump to the tank assembly has been disolved by the gas in the tank. I don't think this is normal. What could cause this? She tells me that no additives have been used.

Are you using the hose supplied with the pumps? Even though those are relatively low pressure pumps they still require the usage of fuel injection hose rather than regular fuel line
