1997. s-10 Standard clutch, 2wd, 2.4 liter

I can only drive it 350 miles on one tank. the tank size is 18.5 gallons. Thats 19 miles/gal!!! Its got new tires, new fuel filter, new plugs, passes emmissions test just fine, i've cleaned out the TBI, new PCV valve, new performance intake filter on it. It doesn't stutter or stall funny, no funny noises, no backfire. When the engine is cold it takes a second for the car to want to go in first gear for the first 5 yards or so, then runs fine.

The ONLY thing i can see/understand is that i periodically get the Check engine light, the problems reads: "EGR Sensor A - Circuit Low"

Factory this car is supposed to get 23 in the city and 30 on the highway. (fueleconomy.gov)

Im all outta ideas, any help?

Try using a Higher Octane Fuel.

Check the plugs, to see if your running rich.

Try some fuel injector cleaner as well.

I have the a 1997 s10 standard. I have a feeling that the new tires you bought may have significantly dropped the fuel economy. I recently went from all-season car tires to all-terrain truck tires and instead of getting 580+ km's to a tank, now i get 450km's.

make sure you don't have an exhaust leak that can effect your gas mileage pretty good.

on my 95 2.2 with 100,000 miles and a 5 speed manual. 5 mufflers later i was broke and took off my 82 s-10 with a 350cid in it the 2 1/2 pipe off and fit it to the back of the cat converter with an off the market 2 1/2 muffler and jumped 3mpg. stock was 15, with that addition, i jumped to 18. the real jump was when i got ahold of a "tornado" and put it in on the radiator side of the intake hose. now im at 24 on the highway at 70mph. comments welcome
