My 1987 Chevy S-10 4X4, 5 speed, with 148,000 will not start. I was having trouble getting out of a slick area as the four wheel drive is not working( another subject). After about an hour the engine cut off and would not restart. I am not sure wether I ran it out of gas the gauge may be wrong(the area it broke down is very remote and I had to walk out)but I know that the fuse marked CRANK witch is a 3 amp fuse and the one Marked ECM a 10 amp fuse both were blown. I replaced both and it still would not start would running out of gas and trying to restart it cause these fuses to blow. I need to make sure that I take the proper parts and gas to the truck and fix it as no tow truck can get to it.

It could be your Fuel Pump that caused the Fuses to Blow. If the Tank was Empty, the Fuel Pump may have overheated & shut down.
Be sure to put Fuel in, Check Fuses, Check for Fuel Pump Operation. If the Fuel Pump is not working, Check Fuses & Voltage to the Fuel Pump Relay.

The fuel pump relay is normally found on a relay bracket which is mounted to the left front fender in the engine compartment. Positioning within the bracket will vary according to model and application. Check for loose electrical connections; no other service is possible, except replacement.

The electric fuel pump is attached to the fuel sending unit, located in the fuel tank.
