s-10 fuel gauge drops to empty randomly no matter the...

true level of the tank
1. Make and Model of your car chevy S10
2. Current odometer reading (approx) 95,000
3. Stick Shift or Automatic Transmission manual
4. Strange sounds or smells (if any) none
5. Fluid leaks (if any) other than ac water, none
6. Past repair history (if applicable) cat. converter, starter, lots of things over the last 7 years... LOL

I even had this truck blow the plastic ends off a radiator...

Anyway, the most recent issue is a really "fun" problem... the gas guage drops to nothing randomly and even the low fuel light comes on... and move the truck further down the road or turn a corner and it changes... it is completely unreliable and it is the only guage I am having issues with...

Ground out the connector at the fuel pump and see if the gauge responds, if it does, it is probably a bad sending unit in the tank.

Phillip,

You provided wonderful information EXCEPT the year and size of the engine. So now I have to guess instead of giving you a direct help answer. You probably have a rusty ground strap connection from the fuel sending unit and it probably bolts to the frame about half way between the gas cap and the rear wheel on the frame. Of course, if we knew if it was carbuerated, throttle body injected, or multiport injected, a 4 or 6, no computer, up to 95, or OBDII control system. OH never mine these minor details.

it is OBI II it is a 2000 model year but I bought it in december 1999

LOL... I have not found a source for anything else... I have a manual transmission and we had to put an automatic transmission radiator in it in 2004...

OH and by the way,

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! buy a radiator or a heater core with plastic end caps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shop at 55 different autoparts stores if you have to but, never but anything with plastic end caps.

You can often find the "real thing" for less money than plastic end caps.
