My 2009 Chevy s-10 just started making a sqealng metal on metal noise that is heard from the rear of the car when in drive only, between 0-10 mph and when slowing to a stop. The noise is absent while going in reverse and when the veh is moving in neutral. The gears all shift normally and the veh otherwise rides smoothly

Have you started with the basics and checked the rear brakes? If they are ok, you may want to remove the rear diff cover and look for alot of metal in the diff fluid, this could be from a bad bearing.Have you carried alot of weight in the truck? tow with it?
