While on the interstate today on the way to work i was traveling at 65 mph. I wanted to change from the fast to the slow lane so I stepped into the exlecerator a little to make the pass. When I had done this the tach went to 4000 rpm and then suddenly down to 1000 rpm (no slam or clunk noted). Then I had no power. I eased into the gas again and had no drive to the wheels. So I placed the gear to neutral and coasted about 200ft, and then placed the vehicle back into drive. I eased into the gas again (no noise noted from shifting) and two larger plums of black smoke exited the exhaust pipe. It seems like I might of had a vapor lock or incorrect combustion. I doubted vapor lock due to newer motor construction and non carberated motors now. It also is 93 degrees out today (do not know if that is a factor). Check all fluids oil, transmission, coolant. Everything appeared to be normal. I do not know what the problem may be. Any ideas?
