2002 Chevy S-10 oil pressure gauge

2002 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my pressure started going up as i am accellerating. this has never happened before. it usually stays around 40 psi when the engine excellerates. Now it will go above 60 psi until I let off the gas. why? and is this problem serious?

Sounds like the oil pump pressure relief valve sticking
