The EBCM went out on my S-10. To have it repaired is going to be very expensive ($1200). I can order the part online for around $400. Is this something I can replace myself? If not, will the dealer or another certified mechanic install the part I buy online? Is it safe to buy this part online (ECBMDirect. Com)? Thanks for your help.

Did you get a price from your local dealer

you should before you buy from on line
as it will not work and you have to tow the car to the dealer they the only ones that can reprogram the BCM so u can start the engine, and so on.

Yes, the $1200 was from the dealer. The truck still runs, but the ABS and Brake light are on and it won't pass inspection like that. After having them diagnose the problem, they told me the ECBM was faulty and needed to be replaced. This was a Chevy dealership so I believed them.

MAMA $1200

BRAKES!
You can have it replaced by locale shop (not a dealer)
you may have to run it back to the dealer to calibrate tire size in it
it can be done
which should be less then a $100 to calibrate

good luck
