My friend has a 2000 S10 with the 2.2-liter I-4 engine. He wants to change out the timing belt now, instead of waiting until it breaks. A 'mechanic' told him that there is no timing belt in that engine.... is this true? All the vehicles I've ever owned had either a timing belt or chain. Sounds like a load of crap to me; but I'm no mechanic.

maybe he was being a smarty pants when you asked about a timing belt, because it has a timing chain. I looked for parts on line and I found timing belts for that size and model of vehicle, I think you should check yourself, look for a timing belt cover, if you see none then he may be right.
