my son replaced a positive battery cable on his 2000 S-10 and now has no power at all . what might he have done to cause this problem

try removing and re-installing the negative cable, ALWAYS remove the neg, before working on electrical....He may have blown a relay, or fuse for the PCM, look in the power distribution center...
