Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

History First: Driving down the road 1/16 tank of gas Low Fuel light on. Stopped at stop light and engine stalled. Attempted to restart and would not. Got more fuel thought it was out and would restart with starting fluid but not stay running. Fuel pump, filter, relay something else? What should i check first Relay, filter then pump? Easy, medium, hard, improbable (to me nothing is impossible)? Possible special tools needed?

take off the gas cap and have someone turn the key on. You should hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds. If you do you should have at least 40p.s.i. to run your engine. If you have never changed the fuel filter change it. If the pupm doesn't work or hear it kick in when someone turns the key , then check your fuel pump relay. If you have to change teh pump itself, pull th ebox off, ther eare only 6-8 bolts holding it an ddisconnect the electrical and have a couple of friends help youmove the box back. You don' t need to take it completely off then the fuel pump is available right on top and easy to get to.......oh you'll have to disconnect the fuel hoses going to the vent and intake of the tank.
