2000 Chevy S-10 Engine whines continuously

Our Chevy S-10 Extreme has started whining when the engine is on. The whining increases in volume with acceleration, and overall seems to be getting louder daily. No other problems with the truck except the AC is out, which is an old problem.

Check underhood listen to pinpoint noise in one of driven components. If not there at idle then trans is suspect.
