My 2001 S10 has become more and more difficult to shift into first gear. When I try, it doesn't grind or make any noise, I have to play with it to get it to go into gear but it eventually does. All the other gears work fine. I am not sure if it is something inside the transmission or maybe just a shift column bushing. Any advice to fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Vern

Check the fluid level in clutch master cylinder and bleed slave to make sure you have no air in system.

You may just have a problem with the clutch hydraulics (hopefully).

Another possibility is the shifter cables (shift and select cables). They may be loose or a bracket is bent. If hydraulics are OK then remove console and inspect shifter mechanisim.

This is a good starting point.
