I just got a 2000 S10 p/u. When you turn on the A/C there is a rattling noise coming from underneath the engine compartment. Also when driving at highway spped and go up an incline in the road the engine seems to loose power and does not maintain speed.
Any thoughts or suggestions? AC Compressor?

What I need you to check is the exhaust. Many times heat shields will come loose. With the AC on, the engine is under more of a load which can cause the shield to rattle. Also, the inside of the catalytic converter can come loose and rattle. That could explaine the power loss at times.

Take a rubber mallot and tap on the exhaust system to see if you can duplicate the sound.

Let me know what you find.

The heat shield seems fine. No movement or rattle/noise when I tap it. The rattle does seem that it is coming from where the exhaust connects to the engine.
