I was given a 98 Chevy S10, and it is in need of some work. The person from whom we got the truck thinks there is a head problem. So, how do I safely remove the head, and once removed, do I need to then remove the valves?

What is it doing or not doing that leads them to suspect it's a problem with the head? Would be bad to tear it apart to discover the problem was a bad spark plug wire!
