When I put on the brake and get down below about 5 mph this growling noise starts. It quits when I come to a complete stop. If I have to hit the brake hard and stay on them until I stop there is no noise. I have replaced all the pads and shoes. No grind on rotors. It sounds like it is coming from under the hood. Possible the ABS pump or motor?

Yes. This noise is in fact the abs pump motor engaging abs system due to a incorrect reading from one of your wheel speed sensors. This is so common on these trucks. What happens is when you are slowing down the abs system loses a wheel speed signal due to the air gap being too big for the wheel speed sensor. This is caused by either a loose hub bearing or rust being built up under the speed sensor itself. Gm actually recalled a lot of them and they would remove the sensors and clean the mounting surfaces and reinstall old sensors. Hope this helps
