where is the fuel filter on a 1997 s10 pickup with a 2.2 liter motor

Welcome, under the vehicle, driver side, bed area, mounted on frame rail. Make sure no pressure on system before taking anything loose. One end of the filter shows a quick connect fitting, I believe the autostore sells a cheap tool for that, some, I've taken loose with needle nose pliers. The picture is from autozone.
