1997 Chevy S-10 engine stalls and shakes

I recently had the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors and plugs replaced. I saw no problems for a few months but now. I noticed black spoke from the tailpipe when starting and it is hard to keep it running when idled. As long as I am driving fast it stays on but once I stop it turns off and have a hard time cranking as if it is not getting any gas. Also the person whom put the new fuel pump in must have forgotten something because my gage no longer works after the repairs were made it is constently on empty.

Check and suspect EGR valve
do you have check engine light on
and if so have it scanned for codes
as for the fuel gauge not working after the fuel pump repair suspect the float was not reinstalled properly
