3" hole in the transmission bell housing?

Hi there. Not sure if the form will show it all so I'll just put the info here too:

1996 Chevrolet S-10
118000 miles
4.3 L HO V6
4WD
Automatic Transmission

Been a solid truck since I've owned it for the last 8 years.

I was changing the oil last weekend when I noticed what looks like a 3" hole in the transmission bell housing. I could see the flywheel. I suspect it is some sort of maintenance hole. Is there something I can get to cover it back up?

Hi, there is a metal cap that fits in that hole. You should have a smallerone almost next to it. You can order them from your chev. Dealer

Yep, that is an inspection hole, they make covers for it but you can use a plastic one as well which you can get from amazon.
