how do I adjust the linkage for an automatic transmission, won't go into park anymore seems pretty sloppy

There should be an adjustment down by the trans where the linkage connects. Check to see if the cross linkage is worn out. There may be an adjustment at the base of the column as well if it's a column shift. This could be an internal problem though as well.
