1988 Chevy S-10 dash lights an radio wont work

i have some kinda of electrical problem. every time i turn my lights or radio on the gauges quit workin. everything but the truck itself dies. it happend after i changed the battery.

is it the lights behind the gauges that quit working or the gauges them selves that quit working?
same with the radio does it completely quit working or just the lights?
