Engine Performance problem
1986 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

4 Cyl in a standard cab s10. Just bought it. I was told a sensor on the TBI was bad but the previous owner did not know which one. It would shudder or jerk when at constant speed between 25 and 45. After driving the vehicle for 50 miles at 60 mph or so it started missing more and more. Finally stopped and it was shaking and missing bad. It was getting fuel out of the nozzle on the TBI. Left it overnight and now it will not start. It tried once and then just spun over.

Hi speeddemon1098, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

It tried once and then just spun over.

Lets do below to determine if its a fuel or spark problem and comeback with some testing results this will give me an idea where to start.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure tester designed for your fuel system to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pick-up strainer/fuel pump/pressure regulator and also listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light and see if it flashing-Depends on what type ignition system is yours, No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, camshaft and crankshaft position sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply to your vehicle disregard it and keep checking and testing.

It had fuel spraying from the nozzle real nice before it died. It is about 40 miles away in the country right now. I will check it out as soon as possible and get back to you.

Put new plugs in and got it started. Plugs were almost white from a lean condition. I ran a can of sea foam through it prior to it dying. After I finally got it started it was sluggish and varied between running good and no throttle response at all. Service engine light would come on then it would start running good then it would go back out again.
