Engine intermittently dies then will crank but not start. If left to sit for an hour or more the truck will fire up immediately. This is a V6 2.8L engine with carburetor. I have replaced the fuel filter as well as the after market universal electric fuel pump that the truck is equipped with. During failure no fuel is being delivered by fuel pump even though the pump is running. I have removed the fuel cap, it makes no difference. Is there a vent line or valve of some kind that if failing could be causing some kind of vacuum lock? What should I try next? I cannot afford to take the truck to a repair facility so having the ecm scanned for codes is not an option for me.

If the fuel pump is running but no fuel is coming out of it. Then something is blocking the fuel line.

I once chased my tail looking for a fuel delivery problem.
It ended up being a piece of plastic floating around in the tank.

The piece of plastic would get just in the right spot and get sucked up against the pickup tube.

The car would die.

After it sat for a few minutes, the plastic piece would move away from the pickup tube and you could restart the car.

Good luck
