My truck overheated on my way from work about a month ago (I drive 180 miles round trip) and the engine died shortly after I noticed my temp guage in the red. After troubleshooting and a trip to the machine shop, I found that my cylinder head is warped beyond repairable limits. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck buying a new head. I dont want to get a refurbished head even though its cheaper, I'd like to have a new head with a new warranty because pulling it is a major pain in the butt. Recomendations?

Also a warning to 4 cylinder S-10 owners.....as soon as you see your temp guage rising to beyond normal stop immediately and change your thermostat! Mine only ran hot for a few minutes and the head was trashed, thats why I keep a thermostat in my pocket at all times now.

thanks!

Good warning-a big lesson to learn about the Stat what it can do with the engine-Also make it a practice to carry a voltmeter at all times.

As for the head either you wait for Dr.SW or Goggle it.

Good Luck!

Just an update, if anyone needs a new head for a car or truck, I used Cylinder Heads of Clearwater out of Florida. A brand new head with valves and springs and a one year warranty cost me $275.00 including shipping. It arrived two days after I ordered it, everything lined up perfectly and now my truck is back on the road and running as good as new. I highly recommend these guys and I probably would have paid at least $200 at the machine shop for all the testing and refurbing they would have had to do.
