2001 Chevy Prizm Burning Oil

My car has started burning at least 1 1/2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. What type of repairs can be made to save car or would oil additives help slow the burning.

Check compression to see if piston rings are bad. If they are OK, then valve seals/guides.

If rings, then I would replace engine with used one.
