I have a 1999 Chevy Lumina 3.8 V6 engine with 145000 miles. When I start the engine and the car warms up the coolant temperature gauge reading hardly changes. What could be the cause?

How is your heat?

Are you sure about a 3.8?

You asked if the heater was putting out any hot air. Well it take awhile for it to get hot. The other day I started the car and it ran for about 5 or 10 minute before I drove off. I drove about 5 miles before the heat coming out was hot but the temp gauge was still on 100 or a little over. I stopped in a parking lot and let it idle for a couple of minutes and the needle went to the normal temp but, it doesn't stay up there. The out side temperature was 45 or 50 degrees
