Not dying when shut off

I have a 1986 350 engine and when the key is turned off sometime the motor will try and stay running most if the time when the engine is warm

When you say continue to run, do you mean run normally, or just keep coughing and sputtering acting like it still wants to run?
If it continues to run, and runs smootly, I would suspect a bad ignition switch. If it couhgs and sputters, it could be carbon build up on your pistons that gets really hot and keeps igniting the fuel aft you shut the ignition off.
