a few weeks ago, I noticed that my coolant gauge was moving wildly but would never hit the RED Zone. It would only move up over the half mark while I was idling in heavy traffic. I took the car to the dealership and they changed the thermostat, said it was stuck open, and the serpentine belt, said coolant had leaked on it. Now, I am hearing this noise coming from underneath the dash board, sounds like a coffee pot is perculating or gurggling sound and the gauge is still moving erratically. I talked to a 'backyard" mechanic and he thinks the line has a air pocket and it was not properly bled or that they system needs to be flushed. Can you guys give me your thoughts on this noise and what I should do.. Thanks.

My 2006 Impala "gurgled" from under the dash each time it was started, from the day I got it. The low coolant light never came on and during an oil change, the tech told me he added coolant to the resivoir. Could be that on subsequent oil changes, coolant was added.

But the gurgle remained until I had no heat at idle. Heat worked fine when RPM's were higher. Local shop told me I needed a thermostat. I complied, paid them $160. But the no heat at idle remained. I complained to my shop. They just poured more coolant into tank. Obviously, they didn't know how or chose not to purge the air properly from the system.

I submitted question to the fine folks at 2CarPros and they sent me a very detailed air purge procedure that I performed myself. It was easy and worked fine...no more gurgling
