2002 Other Chevrolet Models Engine light and oil light

Engine problem
2002 Other Chevrolet Models 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 113124 miles

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm. The engine light comes on when driving. After a while the oil light comes on. The car runs and drives the same. There is no tapping noise, or any other noises for that matter.

I took it to the dealer, and the stated first that I needed a Cam Shaft... then later a total new engine. Which would run me $4400.

What could the problem "really" be??

Could be as simple as an oil pressure sender malfunction, or low oil level sender.

Have oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, this will tell you if it is mechanical or electrical.

Have PCM scanned at most autoparts stores for free and get error codes.
