In a 2000 chevy 2500 pickup duramax 6.5 with a manual Tranny and Manual transfer case can gl5 be used in the transfer case instead of ATF.
Thanks

Hi there,

If the manufactures specify a spec oil type and grade it is for a good reason, other oils will not satisfy the lubrication needs such as viscosity, load bearing, heat transfer capacity, coefficient of friction requirements, changing the oil specs are fraught with danger, I would not do this at all, What is your thinking behind this change?

I had the truck serviced at a local garage, when I got the bill I noticed they put GL5 in the transfer case when I questioned them I was shown a " repair manual " they use that specified GL5 for this application. I didn't agree, but they said that was the new spec.

Hi there, all I can find is the original specs, I see no suppression for this, best you contact a dealer for the latest information, but I feel it should be running the ATF if that is the original spec. Let me know what you find out and I can make an amendment in our data base.
