Parts house needs to know if fuel system is SFI or TBI. I gave them eng code J from VIN but they are still not sure. Also needed to know if water pump was normal rotation or counter rotation. I had to momentarly hit start and watch fan rotation, assuming clockwise or counter clockwise is viewed from front of engine. Do parts houses not have access to this info? I have Chevy Motorhome Chassis Servive Guide purchased in 1996 from Chevy dealer, Vin code breakdown shows eng code J is SFI fuel system, But I cannot see any fuel injectors on the engine. why would there be a difference in the water pump depending on the fuel system being SFI or TBI?

if you have a thing that looks like a carburetor, then it's a TBI unit. The fuelinjection for that motor will have a largeunit going the whle length of the engine practiacally with the air input from the front. The difference in the water pump may be mounting points for different accessories.
