how to line up marks on cam and crank spockets?

On Chevy engines,The timing marks a Dot to dot,On the v6 & v8 when the marks are dot to dot ign is firing cyl # 6,When I say Dot To Dot I mean crankshaft mark at 12:00 camshaft at 6:00,Line distributor up so rotor points to #6 wire,and you'll be fine,with both marks at 12:00 cylinder #1 will be at TDC.good luck
