Yes, all filters are different in a few ways, the thread size and thread count. If you have a chevy V8 it should be a fram ph5, double check that part number before you get 1.

It depends on how different the filter was from the correct 1. Get the correct filter and install it. Is your filter mount clean and free of old gasket? Filters can also loosen up and eventually come off if you dont tighten them enough. Make sure you tighten it by hand but the filter says one quarter turn after contact. Go tighter than that or it will leak.
