1981 Other Chevrolet Models emissions testing

I just recently purchased a 1981 El Camino. I was told it would not pass emissions testing though after I purchased it. I talked to a few friends and my boyfriend told me to run my car to about a quarter tank and put a bottle of rubbing alcohol in the gas tank and it will fire hot enough and pass the emissions. Is this true and will it hurt the engine if I do so?

you probably don't have the car by now, but if you ever have this problem again, Just change the oil and oil flter, check the air filter to be clean, drive teh car about 10-15 miles on the eway where it is good and warmed up then take it in for testing. If it runs ok it will probably pass the test ok.....
