1977 Other Chevrolet Models rear main seal replacement

1977 Other Chevrolet Models V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i was wondering if you absolutly have to take your engine out of your 1977 chevy bonanza to replace the rear main seal or can you do it while the engine is still in the truck?

It can be done in vehicle there is a tool to pull out upper seal. May have a little difculty getting oil pan off. Need to loosen all main caps to let crank drop a little.
