1988 Chevy Nova fill fluid

Transmission problem
1988 Chevy Nova Automatic 167000 miles

Ran the car aprox. 200 miles when it started to suddenly buck and sputter. Thought the transmission was shot but a passer-by noted it must be the linkage and showed me how to at least drive it home. I cannot drive it past 25-30mph as it runs very rough and makes a binding type noise. How do I fill the transmission fluid and where is the reservoir? I realize it could be the vacume hose which is possibly not connected. Any troubleshooting advise?

Check the fluid level with the engine running (in park). Add fluid as needed, through the dipstick hole.
Toyota uses a seperate supply for the differential (where the axles go into the trans).

If the differential is out of fluid, they may have begun to sieze, which would require the trans be taken out.

Fluid for the differential is added through a plug in the back of the differential, and can be difficult to get to unless you can get the car up on a hoist.
