I have the A131L 3 speed automatic trans in my Nova. I was wondering if I can install a different Toyota 4 speed trans in it's place.

The A420 is the 4 speed trans. I am not sure if it was offered in '87.

While it would probably bolt up, the ECM's are different as well as shifting control (TV cable vs. Vacuum).

If you still have the owners manual, check to see if it shows the 4 speed.
