engine Idle problems

So my friends nova doesn't idle. When he stops you have to give it gas and brake to keep it from stalling. Whats happening?

Check the fuel pressure might tell you something about the fuel filter and fuel pump.

It probably needs an A/F mixture and Curb idle adjustment. Check the PCV and the EGR valve.
