Engine Mechanical problem
1973 Chevy Nova V8 Automatic 173000 miles

I'm looking at a car on craigs list right now and the only problem with the car seems to be a broken cam shaft. I was wondering since im not a major engine guy, how much would this cost to repair?

Camshafts for the small blocks are available anywhere and are pretty cheap.
Having said that, the broken cam could have caused damage to the cam bearings, lifters/lifter bores, block, valves and a whole lot of other stuff.

I would not buy it unless the engine could be inspected by a mechanic or you have the resources to replace the longblock if necessary.
