Engine problem
2004 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 67000 miles

Yesterday on my way home from work, the car started running rough. Then the engine light came on. The temperature gauge was mid/normal. I parked it at the grocery store for about 20 minutes. It started up pretty hard. By the time I drove the remaining 3 miles home, the temperature gauge was in the red. I had the thermostat changed last night. This morning, the engine light was still on and when I backed out of the garage, it was shaking/hesitating/etc. I parked it. What do you recommend? I thank you in advance for your help.

Need to have the PCM scanned for codes. Autozone will do it for free. Get back with the codes. Is it losing any coolant/ Sudden loss like that with an overheating condition could be a blown headgasket.

The temperature gauge only went into the red about 50 yards from my house. I had driven about 18 miles with no issues, then the rumbling/shaking started. There is coolant in there and I had the plug wires checked for burning. It was only hot for 2-3 minutes

Have it tested for a blown head gasket. Might have been borderline and that little bit of overheating sent it over the edge. Have you had the PCM scanned yet for the codes?

Hi - ok - the codes at Auto Zone said #1 misfire. However, they recommended I flush the radiator (done) and change the water pump (done). Last night when I drove it after finishing, the temperature gauge was sporadic, the heater would not kick on and the battery light came on! But it was running more smoothly. Charged the battery and on the way to work, it ran pretty good. I am having the spark plugs changed this weekend, can't get to them. The ones in the back anyway. The engine light is still on!
