Can the 3.4 liter engine in a 2003 monte carlo be removed through the hood opening or does it have to be removed from the bottom?

pull it out teh bottom and save yourself the trouble of jamming it out the top. i usually take off fenders and hoods on vehicles when i do it that way. but i got the luxery of the equipment.
